Examining my hands
It's obvious age has won
Oh, but the memories
Of all that they have done
Learning to tie a shoe
Playing a childhood game
Attempting hair and make up
Doodling some boys name
Wearing a wedding ring
Giving housework a try
Rocking newborn babies
Then waving them goodbye
Drying tears of joy
Drying tears of grief
Wringing them with worry
Holding your head in relief
Caring for the sick
Giving to the poor
Hugging without reserve
But oh, so much more
Cooking and sewing
Planting and mowing
Decorating and writing
Nail painting, nail biting
The most rewarding thing
These hands could ever do
Is folding them in prayer
And for this, thanking you
